French actor Alain Delon passes away at 88

Renowned French actor Alain Delon passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on the night of Saturday to Sunday, according to reports from French media.

“He passed away peacefully in his home in Douchy, surrounded by his three children and loved ones,” read a statement from his family, shared by the press.

French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to Delon, describing him as “more than a star: a French monument.”

Alain Delon was one of the most iconic figures in French cinema, launching his career in the 1950s at just 22 years old. Over the decades, he starred in nearly 90 acclaimed films, including classics like Plein Soleil, Le Samouraï, and La Piscine.

Delon’s international acclaim was also significant, particularly for his roles in The Leopard and Rocco and His Brothers, both directed by the legendary Italian filmmaker Luchino Visconti. In 1985, his exceptional talent was recognized with a César Award for Best Actor for his performance in Notre histoire.
