A vocational training institute in Rabat is getting a major upgrade under a new project worth MAD 19.03 million ($2.08 million) to help young people learn technical skills and find jobs in Morocco and Germany.
The project is led by the Chamber of Crafts of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region with support from the Invest for Employment (IFE) programme.
IFE is providing MAD 16.02 million ($1.76 million), covering 84% of the project’s cost. The Chamber is contributing MAD 3.01 million ($330,000), or 16%.
The project will modernise the Specialized Institute for Traditional Crafts Arts in Rabat. It aims to improve vocational training, update teaching methods and give students skills that match today’s job market.
About 310 young people will benefit from the programme, with around 100 trainees each year.
Students will receive training that prepares them for jobs in Morocco and abroad, especially in Germany. They will also get support to start their own businesses.
The project includes the construction of two new buildings covering a total of 900 square metres. One building will cover 400 square metres, while the second will span 500 square metres. The new facilities will include classrooms, practical workshops, offices and technical spaces.
Three new workshops will open in fields with growing demand, including automotive electrical systems, solar photovoltaic energy, and refrigeration and air conditioning (HVAC).
Workers will also install new industrial machines, teaching equipment, computers, safety gear and workshop furniture.
The programme includes hiring instructors for the new subjects, training existing teachers and updating courses to better match employers’ needs.
Invest for Employment is a funding initiative created by KfW Development Bank on behalf of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It supports projects that create jobs and improve vocational training in partner countries.
