GIZ has a new Country Director in Morocco. Rico Langeheine has taken over the role from Dr Kathrin Lorenz, who led the German development agency in the country for three years.
Lorenz and her team worked on inclusive development, jobs and the green transition. Their work followed an agreement between the German and Moroccan governments.
“We look forward to continuing this partnership under the leadership of Mr. Langeheine, whose experience and fine knowledge of development cooperation will open a new chapter,” GIZ said.
Langeheine is a German development expert. He previously worked as Resident Director and Country Director for GIZ in Cameroon.
GIZ has worked with Morocco since 1975. Its country office has been based in Rabat since 1999.
The organisation currently has more than 228 national employees and 46 international employees in the country.
GIZ is owned by the German government. Its headquarters are in Bonn and Eschborn, Germany.
The organisation provides services in international development and education. It mainly works with Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
GIZ also carries out projects for the European Union, German federal ministries, foreign governments and private companies.
The organisation has more than 25,000 employees worldwide and works in more than 120 countries. Its annual business volume is more than €4bn.
Its work includes helping government ministries, civil society groups and local businesses build their skills and capacity.
GIZ also runs projects covering renewable energy, water management, sustainable economic development and vocational training.
The organisation is also working on green hydrogen in Morocco. Its work includes policy advice, technical feasibility studies and helping public and private organisations work together.
