Government approves 5% minimum wage boost starting in 2026

The Moroccan government has officially approved a new raise in the national minimum wage. Meeting on Thursday, December 18 in Rabat, the Council of Government passed a decree establishing updated wage levels for both the general minimum wage and the agricultural sector minimum, following the commitments made during the national social dialogue.

The proposal, introduced by Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, marks the implementation of the second phase of the wage increase agreed upon with labor unions and employers back in April 2024.

Under the decree, the legal minimum wage for non-agricultural sectors will rise by 5% starting January 1, 2026. In the agricultural sector, the same increase will take effect on April 1, 2026.

Government spokesperson Mustapha Baïtas clarified during a press briefing that the decision is part of a broader strategy to steadily improve private sector wages. The move stems from a tripartite agreement signed on April 29, 2024, between the government, trade unions, and employer organizations.
