The Grand Stade of Tangier is set to take center stage during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, standing out as the largest stadium selected for the tournament. Recently expanded and upgraded to meet the rigorous “FIFA 2030” standards, the venue now offers seating for up to 75,500 spectators, ensuring a world-class experience for fans and players alike.
The Tangier stadium will host six matches during the competition, including one semi-final. The schedule features three group-stage games and three knockout matches, with large crowds expected, particularly from Senegal, Benin, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The stands, spread over three tiers, are painted in white and blue—echoing the city’s coastal identity. Hospitality areas are designed to impress, offering 210 guest seats, 1,300 VIP spots, and 142 luxury boxes across various levels, each box accommodating up to 20 people.
The pitch features a hybrid grass system combining natural turf with synthetic fibers, cultivated locally and adapted to seasonal and sun exposure variations. This advanced surface ensures resilience, efficient drainage, and quick recovery—ideal for back-to-back matches without compromising play quality. A bidirectional system also allows for both drainage and irrigation, depending on the weather.
Player comfort was a major focus during the redesign. Beyond the required facilities, the stadium includes four spacious locker rooms, relaxation areas, cryotherapy rooms, fully equipped warm-up zones, technical offices, and a 500-square-meter mixed zone for post-match media access.
The lighting system meets international broadcast standards and features integrated visual effects and interactive displays. Two massive 220-square-meter screens enhance the viewing experience, joined by a 700-meter-long perimeter screen and top-tier sound equipment. All visuals and technical elements are managed from state-of-the-art control rooms.
Architecturally, the stadium’s signature feature is its wave-like roof, inspired by the nearby sea. Stretching 85 meters, it’s among the largest of its kind globally, blending steel structures, cable supports, and a translucent textile covering designed to withstand the region’s windy and varied climate. The ambitious installation was completed in record time using entirely Moroccan engineering expertise.
