Haytham Eissa has officially taken over as the new head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s operations in Morocco. He replaces Antoine Sallé de Chou and will now lead the Bank’s initiatives across the country from its Casablanca office. Eissa will report to Mark Davis, who oversees the EBRD’s Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region.
A British national originally from Egypt, Eissa has been with the EBRD since 2012, building a solid track record within the institution. He previously served as regional head of infrastructure for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean area and as deputy director in Egypt. Over the years, he has overseen key transport and municipal service projects, and played a central role in supporting Morocco during the Covid-19 crisis.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Eissa said he was “honored” to step into the role, adding that he aims to deepen the Bank’s impact across Morocco. He also reiterated the EBRD’s commitment to supporting small businesses, strengthening infrastructure, and continuing its partnership with Moroccan authorities to bolster the private sector.
Eissa holds an executive MBA from Warwick Business School and a bachelor’s degree in international business from the University of New Brunswick. Before joining the EBRD, he worked in investment banking and corporate leasing, advising on mergers, acquisitions, and fundraising deals across the Middle East and Africa.
The EBRD has been active in Morocco since 2012 and has invested more than €5.8 billion across 123 projects. Morocco is one of the Bank’s founding members.
