BANK OF AFRICA has started a new online series to encourage Moroccans living abroad to invest in their home country.
The programme, called “Invest in Morocco Webinar”, was created with Morocco’s 40 under 40 initiative. The first session took place on 16 March and brought together about 50 participants to talk about how Moroccans overseas can help grow the country’s economy.
The move follows calls by Mohammed VI to step up efforts to involve the Moroccan diaspora. Organisers say people living abroad are not only emotionally connected to Morocco, but also bring useful skills and international experience.
The aim of the series is to connect entrepreneurs, professionals abroad and banks. It also focuses on giving simple, practical advice on how to invest, along with real stories from people who have already started businesses in Morocco.
Speakers at the first session included Brahim Benjelloun Touimi from BANK OF AFRICA, Ali Mehrez, and Mamoun Tahri Joutei.
Entrepreneurs from the “Morocco’s 40 under 40” network also shared their experiences, including Manal Rommani, Nadir Tayach and Safir Hanafi.
BANK OF AFRICA says the project builds on its long-term work with Moroccans abroad. Since 2012, it has organised investment events and meetings in major European cities.
The bank says it will continue to offer financing and support to help turn ideas from Moroccans abroad into real projects in Morocco.
Organisers say this first session is just the start of a longer series aimed at building stronger links between Moroccan talent around the world and the country’s economy.
