Law firm Garrigues has appointed Jaafar Laidi as the new head of its Casablanca office. He took up the role after serving as a partner at the firm since 2005. Laidi replaces José Ignacio García Muniozguren, who had led the office since it opened nearly 20 years ago. During his time in charge, the firm became one of the country’s leading legal and tax advisers.
The appointment is part of Garrigues’ plan to grow its business in Morocco as investment and international business activity continue to increase.
Laidi advises banks, international industrial companies and investors doing business in Morocco. His areas of expertise include business law, real estate law, administrative law, corporate law and regulatory advice.
He has worked on mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure projects, concessions, public procurement contracts and large development projects.
The firm said his experience in the country’s legal and business environment, along with his work on local and international investments, will help support the Casablanca office’s next stage of growth.
Born in Casablanca in 1974, Laidi holds a master’s degree in private law from Hassan II University and a postgraduate diploma in international business law from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis.
He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the International San Telmo Institute.
Laidi speaks Arabic, French, Spanish and English. International legal guide Chambers Global has recognised him several times in its Distinguished Lawyers ranking.
