Jet Contractors has been awarded the sixth lot of civil engineering works for the Kénitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail Line (LGV) by Morocco’s National Railway Office (ONCF). The contract is valued at 2 billion dirhams, marking a significant step in the construction of this ambitious national project.
Jet Contractors becomes the second Moroccan company, after TGCC, to win a portion of the LGV’s development. The civil engineering works for this project have been divided into seven lots, six of which have already been awarded:
- Lot 1 (63 km): Awarded to China Railway Group (CREC 4) for 3.4 billion dirhams.
- Lot 2 (64 km): Taken by Shandong Hi-Speed Engineering Construction Group at 4.05 billion dirhams.
- Lot 3 (67 km): Secured by Les Grands Travaux Routiers (GTR) for 2.15 billion dirhams.
- Lot 4 (51 km): Handed to TGCC at a cost of 2.8 billion dirhams.
- Lot 5 (55 km): Awarded to China Railway 20th Bureau Group (CRCC 20) for 1.8 billion dirhams.
- Lot 6 (60 km): Now secured by Jet Contractors with a budget of 2.098 billion dirhams.
Expanding Morocco’s rail network
The LGV project not only includes the Kénitra-Marrakech high-speed line but also incorporates connections to existing rail networks, station upgrades, and enhancements to the conventional Kénitra-Rabat-Casablanca-Marrakech line. In addition, it features the construction of terminal facilities and maintenance bases.
The new LGV route will connect the Kénitra maintenance base to the north of the Rabat tunnel, then on to Aïn Atiq and Zenata, eventually extending to Marrakech via the emerging transport hub at Nouaceur.
A landmark infrastructure project
This project is a cornerstone of Morocco’s infrastructure development, designed to significantly reduce travel time between the country’s key cities while boosting economic growth. By awarding large portions of the project to Moroccan firms like Jet Contractors and TGCC, the initiative also emphasizes the importance of involving local expertise in national development efforts.
