Jumia has appointed Marcelle Monkam Siayojie as the new managing director of its business in Morocco. She takes over at a time when the company is trying to grow its online shopping business and reach more customers across the country.
The appointment was officially notified to the Casablanca Commercial Court this summer.
“It’s with great enthusiasm that I join Jumia Morocco. Morocco is a dynamic market, driven by rapid digital transformation and strong growth potential for e-commerce. I am happy to join the local teams to continue this momentum, support our sellers in their development and offer our customers an experience that is increasingly simple, reliable and accessible. Together, we will continue to make Jumia a leading player in online commerce in Morocco.”
Siayojie has more than 10 years of experience at Jumia.
She joined Jumia Cameroon in 2014. Her roles there included category development, commerce and operations.
She later left the company before returning in 2022 as Chief Commercial Officer in Senegal.
She moved to Kenya in 2023, where she held the same position. She later became managing director of Jumia Senegal.
Siayojie has an Executive Master’s degree in Digital Marketing and E-commerce from HEC Maroc.
Her appointment comes as Jumia continues to change how it operates in the country.
The company closed Jumia Food in Morocco as it focused its resources on online retail and the sale and delivery of physical products.
Jumia has also invested in its logistics operations.
The company opened a 5,000 sq m warehouse in Bouskoura, south of Casablanca. The facility can hold more than 300,000 products and includes Jumia’s main sorting centre.
The warehouse is designed to help the company process orders faster and improve delivery times.
Jumia also runs Jumia Logistics, a logistics service that is available to other businesses.
Siayojie’s plans include expanding into smaller cities and rural areas. She will also focus on helping Moroccan small businesses sell through the platform.
Jumia also wants to strengthen its major shopping events and grow its customer base.
The company has been operating in Morocco for 14 years.
