On Tuesday, Minister of Investment Mohcine Jazouli met with Chen Li, President of Gotion High-Tech, to review the progress of the gigafactory project in Kenitra. This strategic project, signed on June 6, is advancing at a rapid pace, adhering to the ambitious timeline set.
“We are proud to announce that Africa’s first gigafactory is already taking shape,” declared Mohcine Jazouli. “This milestone marks a significant phase in our commitment to a sustainable automotive industry and technological progress.”
Strategic and economic impact
The ambitious project, valued at 12.8 billion dirhams, aims to develop a production capacity of 20 GWh for electric vehicle batteries. It is expected to create 17,000 jobs, including 2,300 highly skilled positions.
Gotion High-Tech, a global leader in the electric battery sector and partner of Volkswagen Group, plans to eventually expand its capacity to 100 GWh in Morocco, with a total investment of 65 billion dirhams.
Strengthening Morocco’s industrial hub
This first African gigafactory promises to bring numerous economic opportunities and innovative solutions to the region, further solidifying Morocco’s position as a major industrial hub in Africa.
