The Professional Association of Payment Institutions (APEP) recently held its annual general meeting, where Maha Kohen, CEO of Damane Cash, was elected president for a three-year term. Her appointment marks a new chapter for the organization as the Moroccan financial sector undergoes significant changes.
In her first remarks as president, Kohen emphasized the importance of uniting all members of the association around key strategic priorities. She described the payments industry as being in the midst of a major transformation and called for a collective effort to strengthen the profession, anticipate regulatory and technological shifts, and foster innovation across financial services.
The meeting also served as a moment of recognition for outgoing president Hazim Sebbata, CEO of Cash Plus, whose term ended earlier this year. Members paid tribute to his leadership during a pivotal period for the industry—one defined by rapid digitalization and growing efforts to expand financial inclusion. Sebbata was acknowledged for his dedication and the progress achieved under his guidance.
As the financial landscape in Morocco continues to evolve, Kohen’s leadership is expected to shape APEP’s role in navigating upcoming challenges and opportunities.
