After Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport underwent a major transformation, Marrakech Menara Airport is now following suit, implementing significant changes to streamline passenger entry and enhance the overall travel experience. Security screening equipment, including scanners and metal detectors, has been moved to the airport’s entrances, eliminating the long lines that previously slowed access to the terminals.
This improvement represents a major step forward in efficiency and passenger service. The overhaul was made possible through close collaboration between key airport security authorities, including the Ministry of the Interior, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), and the Royal Gendarmerie. By rethinking security protocols while maintaining strict safety standards, officials have optimized passenger flow and ensured smoother access to airport facilities.
With a growing influx of travelers, Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA) has introduced ambitious measures to expand the airport’s capacity. Key enhancements include redesigned waiting areas for arriving passengers, improved organization of security checkpoints to separate international and domestic travelers more effectively, and an increase in both staff and equipment to accelerate screening procedures. As a result, the average waiting time at Marrakech Menara Airport has already dropped to under an hour, with further improvements aimed at reducing it to just 30 minutes.
Additional large-scale projects are also in the pipeline. Planned upgrades include a complete redesign of the departures area, the installation of e-gates to automate border control, the addition of new boarding gates, and the creation of an extra departure lounge. These developments align with Morocco’s broader effort to modernize its airport infrastructure and position Marrakech Menara as a benchmark for efficiency and passenger comfort.
All these changes are part of ONDA’s “Airport 2030” strategy, which seeks to adapt airport facilities to evolving traveler needs while supporting the expansion of tourism and air transport in Morocco.
