Marjane Group has opened its first hypermarket in Ouarzazate, expanding its presence in south-eastern Morocco and bringing its total number of hypermarkets nationwide to 44.

The new store, located in the city centre, represents an investment of 130 million dirhams, according to the company.

“The opening of our hypermarket in Ouarzazate reflects our commitment to local development,” said Mhamed Chlyeh, chief executive of Marjane Group.

The hypermarket has a 200-space car park and opening hours tailored to local habits. It offers food products, household appliances, clothing and home goods. Fresh products from the group’s FILIERE M supply chain are available, alongside lower-priced items aimed at local households. Part of the range is reserved for local producers and regional suppliers.

The project is expected to create around 200 direct and indirect jobs, with priority given to local recruitment. Staff will receive training in retail, security and customer service through the group’s internal training programme, Marjane Academy.

The store has been built to recent company standards and includes energy efficiency measures and resource management systems. It complies with food safety rules based on international standards and external audits. The site is also expected to be powered by solar energy as part of Marjane’s wider energy transition strategy.

The company said the move aims to meet growing consumer demand in a city known for tourism and its regional role. It forms part of Marjane’s strategy to expand beyond major urban centres and support the development of regional cities, while keeping a standard retail offer across the country.
