Marrakech welcomes Broadway and Mawlid in one powerful month

As the cultural season kicks off in Marrakech, the Meydene Theater is setting the tone with a powerful and emotionally charged return to the stage this September. With two standout events on the calendar, the venue promises a rich blend of spiritual reflection and musical celebration, offering a unique experience for a wide and diverse audience.

The first of these special evenings takes place on September 20, when the Ibn Al Arif ensemble—based in Marrakech—takes the spotlight for a deeply spiritual performance marking Mawlid al-Nabawi, the celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth. The program will feature Samaâ and Madih, traditional forms of devotional music that combine poetic praise, religious chants, and selections from the revered text Dalail Al-Khayrat. The atmosphere will be both solemn and uplifting, as Moroccan voices join in chorus to create a moment that feels less like a concert and more like a spiritual gathering rooted in centuries-old tradition.

Just a week later, on September 27, the stage will transform for a completely different kind of spectacle. This time, an international cast of seasoned performers—veterans of Broadway’s most iconic productions—will team up with emerging Moroccan talents to bring the magic of American musical theater to Marrakech. Audiences can expect a dynamic concert-style performance that spans a wide repertoire, from the haunting melodies of The Phantom of the Opera to the rhythmic energy of West Side Story. It’s a night designed to dazzle, entertain, and foster a shared sense of wonder.

Tickets for both events are available through the usual reservation platforms. Admission to the Mawlid evening ranges from 200 to 250 dirhams, while prices for the Broadway tribute vary between 300 and 500 dirhams.
