Marsa Maroc has signed a management contract with Liberia’s National Port Authority to operate two piers at the Port of Monrovia, the country’s main seaport.

The deal is the first step in a wider partnership that could lead to a long-term concession for a multipurpose terminal at the port.

The Port of Monrovia handles more than 90% of Liberia’s sea trade and is the country’s only deep-water port. The Liberian government has made its upgrade a priority to cut transport costs and support economic growth after the pandemic.

Marsa Maroc was chosen after an international tender. The work will be carried out through its unit, Marsa Maroc International Logistics.

The company will repair and upgrade port infrastructure, supply new equipment and improve the handling of bulk goods, including raw materials and key imports.

The rollout of the project is due to start in the first half of 2026.

For Marsa Maroc, the move fits its “Marsa 2030” strategy to expand outside Morocco. The group already manages 34 terminals and says the Liberia project will strengthen its position as a leading African port operator.

Liberia’s National Port Authority oversees all port infrastructure in the country and plays a key role in trade. Marsa Maroc handles more than 60 million tonnes of cargo a year across its operations.
