Mojazine, a Moroccan construction firm, has landed the prestigious final contract for civil engineering works on the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail (LGV) project. This victory is a testament to the growing expertise and innovation of Moroccan companies in large-scale infrastructure projects. Alongside TGCC and Jet Contractors, Mojazine will play a key role in shaping one of Morocco’s most ambitious transportation ventures.

This major project, overseen by the National Railway Office (ONCF), is critical to enhancing the country’s rail infrastructure and will significantly improve travel times between northern and southern Morocco. The awarded contract, valued at 2 billion dirhams, covers vital tasks including earthworks, bridges, communications, and fencing along the 60-kilometer stretch from the outskirts of Marrakech to the city’s center at the iconic Marrakech Guéliz station.

A milestone for Moroccan expertise

Mojazine now joins TGCC and Jet Contractors as the third Moroccan company entrusted with a major segment of this colossal project, reinforcing the increasing role of local companies in national-scale projects. Mojazine’s section of the LGV, running from Palmeraie to downtown Marrakech, represents the seventh and final portion of the civil engineering phase for the high-speed line, which links Kenitra to Marrakech.

International and local contributions

The LGV Kenitra-Marrakech project was divided into seven lots, awarded to a mix of local and international companies. The breakdown includes:

  1. Lot 1 (Sidi Ichou to Rabat, 62 km) awarded to Chinese firm CREC 4 for 3.4 billion dirhams.
  2. Lot 2 (Rabat Agdal to Zénata, 64 km) secured by Shandong Hi-Speed Engineering-Construction (China) for 4.5 billion dirhams.
  3. Lot 3 (Casablanca bypass to Berrechid, 36 km) taken by French company GTR for 2.15 billion dirhams.
  4. Lot 4 (Berrechid to Settat, 51 km) handled by TGCC (Morocco) for 2.83 billion dirhams.
  5. Lot 5 (Settat to Benguerir, 36 km) awarded to CRCC 20 (China) for 2.83 billion dirhams.
  6. Lot 6 (Benguerir to Marrakech Palmeraie, 60 km) completed by Jet Contractors (Morocco) for 2.1 billion dirhams.
  7. Lot 7 (Marrakech Palmeraie to Marrakech center) now awarded to Mojazine (Morocco) for 2 billion dirhams.

A key step toward Morocco’s rail future

The LGV Kenitra-Marrakech is a critical extension of the existing high-speed line between Tangier and Kenitra. It represents a significant leap forward in Morocco’s national infrastructure development, aiming to reduce travel time across the country and improve connectivity. The project is set to meet its operational target before the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal. This adds a sense of urgency and pride, as ONCF continues to build on its successful completion of the Tangier-Casablanca high-speed rail line.

Strategic and economic impact

The Kenitra-Marrakech LGV will not only unlock new opportunities for southern regions but will also bolster Morocco’s position as a logistical and commercial hub in North Africa. By improving mobility and facilitating trade, the project is expected to enhance the country’s competitiveness and foster economic growth.

With Mojazine’s recent contract win, the civil engineering phase of the LGV is now fully assigned. The focus will now shift to ensuring timely delivery, as Morocco strives to complete this transformative rail link ahead of the global sporting event in 2030.
