Moroccan boxer Khadija El Mardi qualified for the quarterfinals in the under 75 kg category at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Wednesday.

El Mardi secured her spot in the quarterfinals by defeating British boxer Chantelle Reid in the round of 16 with a judges’ decision of 3-2.

On Tuesday, fellow Moroccan pugilist Widad Bertal also advanced to the quarterfinals in the under 54 kg category, overcoming Thai boxer Jutamas Jitpong with a similar judges’ decision of 3-2.

However, their compatriot Yasmine Mouttaki faced elimination in the round of 16 of the under 50 kg category. Mouttaki was defeated by Philippine boxer Aira Villegas, who won unanimously with a 5-0 judges’ decision.

In her upcoming quarterfinal match on Sunday, August 4, El Mardi will face Australian boxer Caitlin Parker, who advanced by defeating Mexican boxer Vanessa Ortiz.

These achievements mark significant milestones for Moroccan boxing at the Paris 2024 Olympics, showcasing the talent and determination of the nation’s athletes on the world stage.
