Moroccan government appoints eight new public sector leaders

On Monday, January 8, the Moroccan government approved the appointment of eight new officials to senior roles across several key ministries. The nominations were confirmed during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, part of an ongoing effort to refresh leadership within the public administration.

At the Ministry of National Planning, Urban Development, Housing, and City Policy, Khadija Sakam was named director of the Urban Agency of Khémisset.

Higher education saw a significant reshuffle as well. Bouchta El Moumni was appointed president of Abdelmalek Essaâdi University in Tetouan. Bouchaib Benchergui took over leadership at the Higher Institute of Sports Science in Settat, while Khald Rizk was named dean of the Faculty of Languages, Arts, and Humanities in the same city.

Over at the Ministry of Equipment and Water, three major positions were filled. Salaheddine Eddahbi was chosen to lead the Directorate-General of Water Engineering, Lahcen Maazizi was appointed Director of Human Resources, and Rachid Meddah stepped into the role of Director of Hydraulic Equipment.

The Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills also saw a key leadership change, with Ouafae Assri named Secretary-General for the vocational training sector.

These appointments reflect a broader push to inject new energy and direction into public institutions, in line with Article 92 of the Constitution, which governs senior public service appointments.
