In a decisive move to tackle the ongoing crisis among healthcare professionals in Morocco, the government has rolled out significant measures. During a meeting on Thursday, chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, the Council of Government approved two pivotal decrees concerning the nursing profession. These decrees were presented by Ghita Mezzour, the Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform.
Key decrees for nursing professionals
The first, Decree No. 2.24.676, amends Decree No. 2.06.620, initially promulgated on April 13, 2007. This amendment pertains to the special status of nurses within the Ministry of Health. The second, Decree No. 2.24.677, modifies Decree No. 2.17.535, dated September 28, 2017, which addresses the status of the interministerial corps of nurses and health technicians.
These legislative changes aim to enhance public sector salaries as part of the April 29, 2024, social agreement, which includes a notable salary increase for nurses and health technicians in both the Ministry of Health and the interministerial corps. According to Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, these increases amount to a net monthly addition of 1,000 Moroccan Dirhams (DH).
Structured implementation of salary increases
The salary boost will be implemented in two equal phases. The first installment of 500 DH per month will be disbursed starting from July 1, 2024. The second installment will follow on July 1, 2025. This structured approach ensures that the financial benefits are systematically integrated, providing immediate relief and continued support for healthcare workers.
By addressing the financial concerns of nurses and health technicians, the government aims to stabilize the sector and ensure better healthcare services for the Moroccan population. This move also aligns with broader public sector reform efforts, underscoring the administration’s commitment to improving working conditions and recognizing the vital role of healthcare professionals.
