The Moroccan team “NexTech” clinched the gold medal at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) finals, held from November 28 to 30 in Izmir, Turkey. Competing in the “Future Innovators Senior” category, the team stood out on the global stage by achieving 4th place overall among more than 400 teams from 90 countries. This remarkable accomplishment solidifies Morocco’s reputation in the competitive field of robotics and technological innovation.
Organized by the International World Robot Olympiad Association, the WRO is one of the most prestigious global competitions aimed at fostering technological creativity and innovation.
The national partner of the WRO, LOOP for Science and Technology, praised “NexTech” for their achievement, emphasizing that this victory is the result of continuous effort and dedication. The Moroccan team secured their place at the international finals after excelling in the national selections, which brought together 65 teams from across the country.
Their winning project, “Terra Genius,” is a groundbreaking robot designed to support sustainable agriculture. Equipped with capabilities for planting, monitoring, and irrigation, the robot embodies the team’s commitment to harnessing technology for environmental and agricultural challenges.
Morocco was represented by five teams in this year’s competition, which was themed “Allies of the Planet.” Each team demonstrated creativity and technical skill while competing with other young innovators from around the world. The event showcased solutions designed to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship.
The World Robot Olympiad is an annual international competition aimed at inspiring young people aged 8 to 19 to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through robotics. By combining play with education, the event nurtures creativity and innovation in the next generation of problem solvers.
The success of “NexTech” not only highlights Morocco’s growing prominence in robotics but also underscores the potential of youth-driven innovation to address global challenges.
