A total of 9,153 new cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) infection and 6,980 recoveries were recorded in Morocco in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

The number of people who got the first shot is 15,717,132, while that of fully vaccinated people (1st and 2nd doses) stands at 11,235,814, the Ministry said in its daily report on the Covid-19 situation.

The new figure brings to 720,256 the total number of contaminations since the first case reported in Morocco in March 2020. The number of people who have recovered has risen to 631,756, a recovery rate of 87.7%.

The new contaminations were identified in the regions of Rabat-Sale-Kenitra (1,869), Casablanca-Settat (1,605), Marrakech-Safi (1,212), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (872), Souss-Massa (846), Beni Mellal-Khenifra (830), the Eastern region (561), Draa-Tafilalet (540), Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (262), Guelmim-Oued Noun (258), Fez-Meknes (202) and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (96).

As for deaths, their total number rose to 10,607 (fatality rate of 1.5%), with 98 new cases recorded in the regions of Casablanca-Settat (30), Rabat-Sale-Kenitra (13), Marrakech-Safi (12), Souss-Massa (10), Draa-Tafilalet (8), Beni Mellal-Khenifra (8), Fez-Meknes (6), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (5), the Eastern region (4) and Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (2).

The number of active cases is 77,893, while severe or critical cases have reached 1,803, 67 of whom are intubated.
