Morocco has taken a major step in its digital transformation with the inauguration of the Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence (AI CoE) by DXC CDG in Salé. This strategic initiative aligns with the country’s “Morocco Digital 2030” vision, aiming to establish Morocco as a key player in AI, both in Africa and on the global stage.
The DXC CDG AI Center of Excellence is designed to be a leading technology hub, focusing on the development and deployment of secure, high-performance AI solutions that meet international standards. The initiative serves a dual purpose: boosting technological innovation within the country while ensuring Morocco’s digital sovereignty through robust and resilient cybersecurity frameworks.
This center adopts a comprehensive approach, integrating advanced AI, data protection, and cyber resilience to provide trustworthy AI solutions tailored to the needs of Moroccan businesses and institutions.
During the inauguration ceremony, Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, highlighted the crucial role of AI centers in strengthening the digital services sector and integrating local businesses into the country’s broader digital transformation. He emphasized the need for investment in AI education and workforce development to ensure Morocco is fully prepared for the challenges of the AI era.
Meanwhile, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, underscored the economic significance of AI, which now contributes 15% of global GDP and is a key driver of development. She reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to becoming an AI powerhouse in Africa, referencing initiatives like the “AI Movement” Center at UM6P and the African AI Council.
As AI technology advances, so do its cybersecurity challenges. General El Mostafa Rabii, Director General of Information Systems Security (DGSSI), warned about the risks of data manipulation in AI models, which could compromise their reliability. He stressed the importance of data encryption, strict access controls, and AI governance committees to protect critical information.
Khalid Safir, Director General of the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG), emphasized the strategic value of this initiative, reinforcing Morocco’s commitment to technological innovation and digital sovereignty. He highlighted CDG’s focus on high-value investment sectors, positioning Morocco as an attractive destination for foreign investors in AI and digital technology.
Similarly, Juan Parra, President of DXC Europe, pointed out the economic impact of AI, noting that nations and businesses that adapt quickly will thrive, while others risk falling behind. He described the inauguration as a pivotal moment for Morocco, leveraging AI not only to strengthen its technological ecosystem but also to create jobs and enhance its global economic competitiveness.
As part of this initiative, DXC CDG also unveiled its latest Cyber Defense Command Center, an AI-driven security platform designed to protect critical infrastructures from cyber threats. This innovative system will enhance the intelligent and secure management of strategic digital assets, reinforcing Morocco’s vision of a safe and controlled digital transformation.
The inauguration of DXC CDG’s AI Center of Excellence marks a significant milestone in Morocco’s ambition to become a leading AI and cybersecurity hub. By fostering innovation, attracting top talent, and strengthening its digital ecosystem, Morocco is solidifying its position as a major player in the global AI landscape.
