Morocco breaks tourism records with 13.5 million visitors by August 2025

By the end of August 2025, Morocco had welcomed 13.5 million visitors—marking a strong 15% increase compared to the same period last year. This surge, announced by the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, underscores the continued momentum in the country’s tourism sector.

The summer season alone broke fresh records. In July and August, 4.6 million tourists crossed into Morocco, a 6% rise from the summer of 2024. A key driver behind this performance was the large influx of Moroccans living abroad. Over 3 million members of the diaspora returned home during the summer months, representing a 13% year-on-year increase.

According to the ministry, this growth reflects both the deep-rooted connection the Moroccan diaspora maintains with their homeland and the country’s rising appeal as a global travel destination. Morocco is now beginning to see the results of its ambitious tourism strategy outlined in the 2023–2026 roadmap.

The plan focuses on expanding air connectivity and diversifying the travel experience by encouraging investment in accommodations and tourist activities. These efforts are helping Morocco stand out, especially as global tourism is expected to grow by no more than 5% in 2025, according to UN Tourism forecasts.
