Morocco’s tourism authority has scored a major win in its international promotion efforts, as the country was named “Best Partner Travel Destination 2025” by Italy’s influential Welcome Travel Group (WTG). The award, presented during the group’s annual convention held on April 5 and 6 in Casablanca, marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between Morocco and one of Europe’s top travel networks.
Achraf Fayda, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), accepted the award from WTG’s president in a formal ceremony that symbolized years of strategic collaboration. Far more than just a nod to Morocco’s appeal as a destination, the honor recognizes the depth of the country’s tourism offering, the ONMT’s relentless efforts, and the strength of a relationship built steadily with one of Italy’s most powerful travel distribution players.
With a network of nearly 2,500 affiliated agencies and control of roughly 44% of the Italian travel market, Welcome Travel Group’s influence is enormous. For Morocco, this endorsement provides not just validation but also a gateway to deeper market penetration in a key European region.
This recognition is closely tied to ONMT’s “Light in Action” strategy—a focused campaign centered on high-impact partnerships, precise targeting, and intensified efforts in top-priority markets. Italy, clearly, has now moved to the forefront of that list.
Hosting WTG’s annual convention in Casablanca was no coincidence. The choice of location sent a clear message of trust and alignment, offering Moroccan tourism a prime platform to engage directly with the Italian market’s power players. The event drew more than 1,500 travel professionals, including travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, MICE industry stakeholders, and other key partners.
Beyond its symbolic value, the convention delivered tangible visibility, benefiting from robust media coverage that included a dozen specialized tourism publications, several mainstream media outlets, and substantial engagement across social platforms.
For ONMT, this event wasn’t just a celebration—it was a high-stakes opportunity. By showcasing Morocco’s full potential to agencies not yet offering the country in their catalogs, the goal is to firmly embed Morocco into Italy’s travel sales circuits. At the same time, the agency aims to position the Kingdom as a go-to destination for Mediterranean MICE events, tapping into a lucrative and rapidly expanding sector.
