Morocco continued their confident march through the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday night with a commanding 3-0 win over Zambia, securing their place in the Round of 16. The match, played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, saw the Atlas Lions dominate from the outset, leaving little doubt about their ambitions in the tournament.
Ayoub El Kaabi opened the scoring just nine minutes into the game, setting the tone for what would become a one-sided affair. Brahim Diaz doubled the lead midway through the first half, calmly finishing a well-constructed play that left Zambia trailing. Shortly after the break, El Kaabi struck again—this time with an acrobatic overhead kick that not only sealed Morocco’s victory but also put a stylish stamp on their performance.
With this result, Morocco topped Group A with seven points. Their group-stage journey included a 2-0 win over Comoros and a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Mali. The team, coached by Walid Regragui, now moves into the knockout rounds as one of the tournament’s most convincing contenders so far.
On the individual front, both El Kaabi and Diaz now have three goals each in the competition. That tally puts them level with Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez at the top of the scoring chart, underscoring Morocco’s offensive firepower heading into the later stages of the tournament.
