The second edition of the Periodays international congress has ended in Casablanca after three days focused on gum and bone diseases. The event took place from 16 to 18 April 2026 and was organised by the Moroccan Association for the Prevention of Periodontal and Bone Diseases. More than 200 dentists from seven countries attended.
A roundtable discussion held alongside the congress looked at the situation in Morocco. The association’s president, Bouchra Abbassi, said cases are rising, especially among teenagers and young adults. She warned that serious untreated disease can lead to early tooth loss and have physical and psychological effects.
Experts said research shows links between gum disease and long term illnesses such as heart disease, brain disorders, respiratory conditions and diabetes. Participants called for more awareness across the health sector and for periodontal treatment to be included in national healthcare pricing. They said early prevention and treatment could help people keep their natural teeth and avoid costly implants and prosthetics.
The congress included live surgery demonstrations, practical workshops, lectures and scientific presentations led by Moroccan and international specialists.
The association said it will continue training dentists and taking part in medical caravans across Morocco to promote early screening, public awareness and better patient care.
