The Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) has acquired a new supercomputer to improve weather forecasts and warnings and climate analysis.

This device, the most powerful of the African meteorological centers, will enable the DGM to improve the forecasting of dangerous meteorological phenomena, to refine geographical accuracy and to better identify risks, said a statement by the ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water.

Named AMTAR by the ministry, the new supercomputer will also make it possible to develop, through high-resolution climate models, the climate change scenarios forecast for Morocco and thus provide more precise information on their impacts on the various economic and social sectors, while setting up an “overall forecast” system.
