Morocco have been drawn in Group A for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they will face Gabon, Niger and Lesotho after the draw was held on Tuesday in Cairo at the Confederation of African Football headquarters.
The qualifiers will decide the teams heading to the finals, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in the summer of 2027. A total of 48 national teams are taking part, split into 12 groups.
Only the top two teams in each group will go through directly to the tournament. The competition format underlines how tight African football has become, with fewer easy matches on offer.
Morocco will be expected to push through as one of the stronger sides on the continent, but they will still need to be sharp across all their group games.
Elsewhere, Egypt are in Group B with Angola, Malawi and South Sudan. Ivory Coast have been drawn in Group C with Ghana, Gambia and Somalia.
South Africa will play Guinea, Kenya and Eritrea in Group D, while DR Congo face Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe in Group E.
In Group F, Burkina Faso are joined by Benin, Mauritania and Central African Republic. Cameroon will meet Comoros, Namibia and Congo in Group G.
Tunisia are in Group H alongside Uganda, Libya and Botswana. Algeria will face Zambia, Togo and Burundi in Group I.
Senegal, the current champions, are in Group J with Mozambique, Sudan and Ethiopia.
Group K includes Mali, Cape Verde, Rwanda and Liberia. Nigeria are in Group L with Madagascar, Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau.
The three host nations, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, will still play in the qualifiers even though they are already guaranteed a place at the finals. This is to help them stay competitive before the tournament.
The final tournament will run from 19 June to 17 July 2027.
