Morocco gears up for Zambia showdown with Hakimi cleared to play

On the eve of their final group-stage match, Morocco’s national football team wrapped up preparations in a calm and focused atmosphere. Gathered at the Mohammed VI Center in Maâmoura, the Atlas Lions held their last training session ahead of their clash with Zambia—a key fixture that could secure them the top spot in Group A of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Currently leading the group with four points, Walid Regragui’s squad heads into the match determined to finish strong and continue their tournament run in Rabat. The only player missing from the full training session was Romain Saïss, who is still recovering from injury and trained separately. The rest of the squad trained together in high spirits, boosted by the reassuring news that Achraf Hakimi is fit to play. The head coach confirmed Hakimi’s availability during a pre-match press conference, much to the team’s relief.

Following the session, several players shared their confidence and focus going into the decisive match. Bilal El Khannous expressed optimism about their chances, highlighting the quality within the squad. “We’re calm and confident. This team has real talent, and we’ve prepared well to take all three points. We’re going for the win,” he said, calling on fans to fill the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

“We’re counting on them, like we did in previous matches. Their support makes all the difference,” El Khannous added.

That message was echoed by Ilias Akhomach, who acknowledged the challenge ahead. “It’s the Africa Cup of Nations—no match is easy. We know it’s going to be tough, but we’re ready. Pressure comes with the territory, especially at home. You have to learn to manage it,” he explained.

Goalkeeper Munir El Kajoui emphasized a steady, step-by-step approach. “We’re working to improve. We know we can do better, and we’re committed to getting stronger with each match,” he said, reinforcing the team’s long-term vision for the tournament.

Heading into the final matchday, Morocco tops Group A with four points, ahead of Mali and Zambia, both sitting on two points. The Comoros currently trail with just one point. While Morocco faces Zambia, Mali will go head-to-head with the Comoros on Monday night at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca—another clash that could shift the standings.
