Morocco holds 12th spot in FIFA rankings and first in Africa after June victories

Morocco has held firm to its position as the 12th-best national football team in the world, according to the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday. The North African side, known as the Atlas Lions, maintained their standing after a string of solid performances in recent friendly matches.

In June, Morocco secured two important victories—beating Tunisia 2-0 and edging past Benin with a 1-0 win. These results added 4.48 points to their overall tally, bringing them to a total of 1698.72 points. While enough to strengthen their hold on 12th place, the team couldn’t quite leapfrog Croatia, who soared into the 10th spot following two commanding wins: a 7-0 demolition of Gibraltar and a 5-0 rout of the Czech Republic. Meanwhile, Italy slipped down the rankings, dropping to 11th place.

Within Africa, Morocco remains the undisputed leader, comfortably ahead of Senegal, who climbed one spot to reach 18th in the global standings with 1635.1 points. Egypt, still Africa’s third-strongest team, lost ground after recent matches and now sits 32nd worldwide, down two places.

At the very top, the global football hierarchy remains unchanged. Argentina continues to reign supreme, followed closely by Spain and France. England and Brazil complete the world’s top five, with no shifts in this elite group.

Portugal moved up to sixth place, while the Netherlands slipped one spot to seventh. Belgium held steady in eighth position, as Germany edged up to ninth. Croatia, fresh off their impressive wins, rounded out the Top 10.
