Morocco has expanded its diplomatic footprint in the United States with the official opening of a new consulate general in Miami. The inauguration, held on Monday, brought together local elected officials, American representatives, and members of the Moroccan diaspora, many of whom attended to show their enduring connection to their home country.
This new consulate is set to serve a wide geographical area stretching from Florida to California, reflecting Morocco’s broader strategy to strengthen ties with its citizens living abroad. Ambassador Youssef Amrani emphasized that the move is fully aligned with King Mohammed VI’s vision for overhauling public policies aimed at the Moroccan diaspora. According to Amrani, the Miami consulate is meant to serve not only as an efficient administrative center, but also as a vital link between Morocco and its global community.
Chafika El Habti, who will lead the new office as Consul General, highlighted the importance of modernizing consular services, particularly through digital solutions. She also underscored Miami’s strategic relevance—not only as a vibrant economic hub but also as a gateway to Latin America, offering significant opportunities for expanding Morocco’s bilateral partnerships and international outreach.
Members of the Moroccan community welcomed the opening, viewing it as a tangible step toward more accessible and responsive consular services. Their enthusiasm was matched by the presence of local U.S. officials, including the mayors of Miami, Hollywood, and Boynton Beach, signaling strong American support for Morocco’s diplomatic initiatives in the region.
