The tripartite bid by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup has reached a significant milestone with the official submission of their complete dossier to FIFA. This important step was announced by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation following a special event held on Monday at FIFA headquarters in Paris.
The bid dossier was presented to FIFA President Gianni Infantino by the heads of the three football federations involved: Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fernando Gomes, President of the Portuguese Football Federation, and Álvaro de Miguel, Secretary General of the Spanish Football Federation, representing President Pedro Rocha.
“Your three countries have already contributed greatly to football, nations with a deep passion for the game, excellent organizational capabilities, and a shared vision of what football and its values should be. It’s fantastic that you have united two continents in the dream of hosting the FIFA World Cup! Football unites the world, and you are proving it with this bid,” stated Infantino during the reception of the bid dossier.
The leaders of the three candidate federations outlined the vision for their joint bid. Fouzi Lekjaa emphasized, “We are proud and honored to present a historic bid for our three countries, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. We are truly convinced that our bid will be a legacy for today’s and future generations. We are working to ensure that the FIFA World Cup 2030 brings people from all over the world together and makes all Africans proud.”
Fernando Gomes highlighted the environmental pillar of the bid: “The dossier we submitted today proposes a vision for the future where the environmental aspect is a key structure of the event. It integrates the needs of the competition with the expectations and future of the cities and populations hosting the World Cup, while promoting inclusion and diversity as the solid foundation of our proposal.”
Álvaro de Miguel reflected on Spain’s historical hosting: “It has been 42 years since our country hosted a World Cup: Spain 1982. More than 40% of our population wasn’t born at that time. The FIFA World Cup 2030 will bring together generations who experienced it and those who didn’t. It will also unite three countries and two continents, leaving an intergenerational, international, and intercontinental legacy.”
Driven by the ambition to organize a competition “for football, for the world, for tomorrow,” the joint bid is embodied by the slogan “YallaVamos.” This slogan symbolizes a proactive effort to advance football globally, with significant campaign efforts already garnering tens of thousands of followers on social media.
By uniting two continents, this bid opens a new chapter in the centennial history of the FIFA Men’s World Cup. It emphasizes building bridges between cultures, creating a welcoming environment for fans and visitors from all backgrounds, and leaving a lasting legacy in terms of sustainability, innovation, investment, and social impact.
The bid’s vision and technical planning, including transportation, accommodation, and infrastructure proposals for the 2030 World Cup, mark “a major milestone in the organization efforts,” as stated in the communiqué. The complete bid dossier will be published by FIFA in due course.
The joint bid for the 2030 World Cup is backed by an impressive group of ambassadors, including football legends from each nation – Luis Figo, Andres Iniesta, and Noureddine Naybet – and the renowned Emmanuel Adebayor, along with top players from the current national teams: Cristiano Ronaldo, Achraf Hakimi, Dolores Silva, Ghizlane Chebbak, Alvaro Morata, Irene Paredes, and Yassine Bounou.
The final decision on the host countries for the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be made by a vote of the FIFA Congress on December 11, 2024.
