Morocco has been re-elected to the executive committee of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) for 2026. The announcement was made on Wednesday during the organisation’s fifth general assembly in Kuwait City.
The kingdom received the highest number of votes, ahead of other candidates.
The DCO was founded in 2020 during a G20 meeting and includes 16 countries across Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Its mission is to promote digital inclusion, support young people, women and entrepreneurs, and encourage economic growth through technology. The organisation also advises members on infrastructure and policy to help build fair and inclusive digital economies.
Morocco’s election comes amid its national push to modernise the digital sector. Its Maroc Digital 2030 strategy aims to digitise public services and create 240,000 tech jobs by the end of the decade. The country is also positioning itself as a regional hub linking Europe and Africa, thanks to advanced fibre-optic networks and 5G infrastructure.
As a member of the executive committee, Morocco will help shape the DCO’s 2026 agenda. This includes deciding which tech sectors receive funding and how to manage emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, with a focus on supporting developing economies.
