Morocco rises as key frozen strawberry supplier to the U.S.

Moroccan frozen strawberries have made a significant breakthrough in the U.S. market in 2025, marking a turning point for the country’s agri-food exports. Between January and October, Morocco shipped 7,900 tons of frozen strawberries to the United States—a 22% jump compared to the same period last year. This record-setting surge is largely due to rising demand across the U.S., coupled with a notable pullback from Mexico, which has traditionally dominated this segment.

In terms of revenue, the numbers tell an equally compelling story. Over the first ten months of the year, Moroccan strawberry exports to the U.S. brought in $19 million, surpassing the previous all-time high set in 2019 by 15%. As the world’s largest consumer of frozen strawberries, the United States now accounts for 17.3% of Morocco’s total strawberry exports. That growing share has helped secure Morocco’s spot among the top five global suppliers.

Unlike other markets with seasonal peaks, the U.S. receives Moroccan shipments year-round, with volumes climbing sharply from May to August. June stood out in particular: 2,500 tons were delivered in that single month alone—an unprecedented milestone that showcases Morocco’s ability to swiftly respond to periods of heightened demand.

Several factors have shifted the landscape in Morocco’s favor. Mexico—long the dominant supplier—has struggled in 2025 with erratic weather, mounting health concerns, and a major policy setback: the Trump administration’s introduction of anti-dumping duties in March. These disruptions have forced American buyers to seek more stable, trustworthy sources.

Morocco has seized the moment. Backed by consistent output and adherence to North American quality standards, the country is emerging as a reliable and competitive player in a market undergoing rapid change. As the U.S. looks to diversify its import base, Morocco’s role is growing more central with each passing season.
