Morocco recorded the creation of 40,874 new businesses during the first five months of 2024, according to data released by the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC). These businesses are divided between 29,481 legal entities and 11,393 individuals, as indicated in OMPIC’s general dashboard on business creation.
In terms of sector distribution, commerce leads with 35% of the new businesses, followed by the construction and public works sector (BTP) at 18.94%, miscellaneous services at 18.87%, and transport at 8.11%. Other key sectors include industry (7.23%), hotels and restaurants (5.52%), information and communication technologies (2.67%), financial activities (2.10%), and agriculture and fishing (1.56%).
Regionally, Casablanca-Settat tops the list with 12,721 businesses created by the end of May, followed by Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima with 5,837 businesses.
