Morocco has begun building Casablanca Tech Valley, a new 6.5-hectare tech hub in the Sidi Othmane district.
The project is a joint effort between the Casablanca City Council and the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG), Morocco’s main state investment agency. Mohamed Haddadi, head of Sidi Othmane, said the aim is to improve the area and make Casablanca a top spot for global tech companies.
The valley will expand the nearby Casanearshore business park and is expected to create more than 20,000 jobs. Plans also include new markets and sports facilities for local residents.
The CDG usually invests in big projects that come with ready-made infrastructure and tax benefits to attract companies. Casanearshore, opened in 2008, is North Africa’s largest business park for offshore companies, hosting Dell, IBM, and French banks’ IT teams.
Sidi Othmane, once mostly residential, was chosen to spread jobs outside the city centre and western suburbs and make work closer to where many young people live.
The project is part of Morocco’s push to become Africa’s main tech hub and links with Casablanca Finance City, which offers special benefits for international firms. It also fits with upgrades ahead of Morocco’s 2030 World Cup, including better transport and digital services.
