Morocco to launch AI and data innovation hub in Casablanca region

A new Center of Excellence focused on data and artificial intelligence is set to launch in the Casablanca-Settat region, following a cooperation agreement signed Tuesday in Rabat. The deal brings together several key government ministries, the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE), and French tech firm Onepoint, in a move that aligns with the country’s broader Morocco Digital 2030 strategy.

The agreement, signed by ministers Amal El Fellah Seghrouchni, Ryad Mezzour, and Karim Zidane, alongside AMDIE director general Ali Seddiki and Onepoint president David Layani, outlines the creation of a cutting-edge tech hub. The project is designed to accelerate Morocco’s digital transformation, strengthen its industrial competitiveness, and fuel innovation across sectors.

Beyond its infrastructure ambitions, the center aims to recruit and train over 500 Moroccan engineers in areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, and middleware technologies. According to Minister El Fellah Seghrouchni, the initiative reflects Morocco’s growing ambition to lead as a high-value destination for digital offshoring.

Industry Minister Ryad Mezzour called the agreement a strong signal from global players recognizing Morocco’s potential—not just in tech, but also in its industrial capacity and skilled workforce. He emphasized that the new center will serve as a vital tool to help small and medium-sized industrial firms digitize operations and secure their systems.

For Minister Zidane, the project stands as a cornerstone of national efforts to promote innovation, strengthen digital sovereignty, and build a future-ready workforce. Onepoint, for its part, has committed to hiring 500 professionals over the next four years, with an emphasis on developing tech solutions designed and engineered entirely by Moroccan talent.

This initiative is part of a broader movement to establish Morocco as a leading platform for innovation and advanced technologies across the African continent.
