Morocco has introduced a new 50 dirham banknote featuring cutting-edge security technologies, as announced by Hassan Regraga, Director of Dar As-Sikkah, during a press conference in Rabat on Wednesday.
“Similar to the first two banknotes of the new series, this new 50 dirham note incorporates state-of-the-art security elements,” stated Regraga. These include a security thread with dynamic color-shifting effects, an iridescent strip on the back, and tactile features for the visually impaired.
The new banknote is also a testament to Morocco’s efforts under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to promote environmental protection and renewable energy development. The reverse side of the note features graphical representations of the NOOR Solar Station in Ouarzazate, wind turbines, the Ouirgane dam, and the Agadir seawater desalination plant.
Regraga highlighted that all design and production stages of the new 50 dirham note were carried out by Moroccan experts at Dar As-Sikkah, continuing the trend set by the new 100 and 200 dirham notes. Bank Al-Maghrib released the new 50 dirham banknote as part of the celebrations for the 25th Anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s ascension to the throne.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Royal Coat of Arms, an architectural motif inspired by Moroccan doors, and a stylized view of the Ouzoud waterfalls.
The reverse side includes stylized images of the NOOR Solar Station in Ouarzazate, wind turbines, the Ouirgane dam, and the Agadir seawater desalination plant, symbolizing Morocco’s advancements in renewable energy and environmental sustainability.
