Morocco unveils high-tech air traffic control tower in Nador

Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA) is continuing its transformation of the country’s air navigation infrastructure as part of its long-term “Airports 2030” strategy. The latest milestone in this modernization effort is the commissioning of a brand-new control tower at Nador El Aroui Airport, signaling a major upgrade in operational capabilities.

Standing eight stories tall and reaching a height of 26 meters, the tower reflects ONDA’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and innovation. It features state-of-the-art communication systems, advanced data processing tools, and integrated weather management technologies—all designed to handle air traffic more smoothly and securely in line with global aviation trends.

This upgrade comes at a time of rapid growth for Nador Airport, which surpassed the one-million-passenger mark in 2024. The addition of this advanced control facility not only supports the airport’s expanding role in the region but also aligns with broader national goals to boost economic and tourism development through high-performance infrastructure.

What’s more, the transition to the new tower was executed with no disruption to air traffic. Thanks to meticulous coordination between air safety engineers and air traffic controllers, the migration of equipment and activation of new systems was seamless, ensuring uninterrupted operations.

Entirely conceived and built using Moroccan expertise, this project is just the beginning. Similar towers are already planned for Marrakech and Casablanca as ONDA accelerates its efforts to bring the country’s aviation infrastructure in line with the most demanding international standards. With air traffic on a steady rise, these upgrades are vital for keeping pace with future demand and positioning Morocco as a regional leader in aviation management.
