The air transport sector in Morocco achieved a record-breaking performance in the first seven months of 2024, handling 18.1 million passengers, an 18.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
This double-digit growth was driven by both international traffic, which rose by 17.9%, and domestic traffic, which surged by 24.6%, as highlighted by DEPF in its latest report, citing statistics from the National Airports Office (ONDA).
The strong performance was supported by increased traffic across most national airports, with notable growth in Casablanca (+6.4%), Marrakech (+30.2%), Agadir (+34.6%), Tangier (+20%), Fès (+11.4%), Rabat-Salé (+40.4%), Nador (+3.9%), Oujda (+10.5%), Tetouan (+23.8%), Dakhla (+33.2%), Laayoune (+9.9%), Essaouira (+29.2%), and Ouarzazate (+18.4%).
Geographically, air traffic maintained its momentum through July 2024, with significant growth in Europe (+19%), the Middle and Far East (+12.1%), Africa (+16.4%), North America (+8.4%), and the Maghreb region (+7.6%).
In addition to passenger growth, air freight traffic and airport movements also saw substantial increases, rising by 24.2% and 14.8%, respectively, by the end of July.
In July alone, the air transport sector set a new monthly record, surpassing 3 million passengers and registering a year-on-year growth of 14.8%.
