Morocco’s electricity output jumps 5.8 percent in 2025

Morocco saw a strong surge in electricity production in 2025, with output rising by 5.8 percent between January and November. This marks a clear acceleration compared to the same period in 2024, when growth stood at just 2.4 percent, according to the latest data from the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts.

The boost in production was largely driven by private energy producers, who ramped up their output by 7.5 percent. The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water also contributed significantly, registering a 6 percent increase in its own production during the same period.

Cross-border electricity flows also reflected shifting dynamics amid growing demand. Imports climbed sharply by 26.4 percent through the end of November. While this pace is slightly below the 31.5 percent spike recorded the previous year, it still represents a high level of foreign-sourced supply to meet domestic needs.

At the same time, Morocco’s electricity exports fell steeply, down by 31.4 percent, as the country prioritized meeting its own rapidly growing consumption. The volume of net energy demand, a key indicator of actual consumption, rose by 7.4 percent, underscoring mounting pressure on the national grid.
