Morocco is gaining significant ground in Africa’s legal landscape, according to the 2025 edition of the Africa Business+ rankings. Eight Moroccan law firms have secured spots among the forty most prominent business law practices in Francophone Africa, with two breaking into the top five—a testament to the country’s growing influence across the continent.
Leading the charge is Bennani & Associés, which has taken the number one position on the list. The firm is currently handling over 150 active cases across roughly fifteen countries, underscoring its role as a heavyweight in the pan-African legal scene. Its Casablanca office, led by Mehdi M. Bennani, has earned a strong reputation for steering major Moroccan and international corporations through complex cross-border matters, particularly in the fields of energy, infrastructure, private equity, and competition law.
Other Moroccan firms are also climbing the ranks and broadening their continental footprint. Dentons Morocco, Gauvin & Raji, CMS Francis Lefebvre Maroc, and Afrique Advisors are among the names making their mark. These firms are involved in major transactions and disputes across key industries such as manufacturing, finance, commercial litigation, and international arbitration—highlighting Morocco’s increasingly strategic role in Africa’s legal and business environment.
The rankings are based on a comprehensive review of more than 1,450 legal cases, assessed across a range of factors including technical expertise, the complexity of handled matters, geographical reach, and socioeconomic impact.
Julien Wagner, who oversees the ranking process, notes that African law firms are no longer playing catch-up with their international counterparts. Armed with deep local knowledge and growing legal sophistication, they’re now competing head-to-head with global firms in some of the continent’s most high-stakes legal arenas.
