The mobile phone market in Morocco has seen a significant rise, growing by 4.8% to surpass 55.4 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2024, according to the latest report from the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

“The telecommunications sector has started 2024 on a positive note, with a 4.8% increase in the mobile phone market in Q1 2024, following a 3.1% rise a year earlier, reaching over 55.4 million subscribers,” stated the DEPF in its recent economic report.

As a result, the penetration rate for this segment climbed to 149.7% by the end of March, up from 144.2% a year earlier and 127% at the end of March 2019, the report highlighted.

The fixed-line telephone market also showed robust growth, expanding by 9.3% in Q1 2024, after a 5.5% increase in the same period last year, the DEPF noted.

Regarding internet services, the number of subscribers rose by 7.5% to 38.3 million, achieving a penetration rate of 103.5%, compared to 97.2% in Q1 2023 and 65.6% in Q1 2019.

Furthermore, the business data connections market saw a modest increase of 2.1%, while the “.ma” domain names market strengthened by 5%.
