The new car market in Morocco is charging ahead, showing impressive growth as of the end of October. The latest figures from the Moroccan Vehicle Importers Association (AIVAM) reveal a surge in both consumer interest and sales figures, highlighting a thriving automotive sector.
According to AIVAM’s October 2024 statistics, the sale of new cars in Morocco reached a milestone, with both passenger and light commercial vehicles enjoying substantial increases. Specifically, the passenger car segment saw a notable rise of 14.94%, with 12,972 units sold in October, up from 11,286 units during the same month in 2023. This growth underscores a rising consumer demand supported by a diverse model range and appealing financing options from dealerships.
The light commercial vehicle (LCV) sector showed even greater momentum, with sales climbing 33.71%. A total of 2,031 units were sold in October 2024, compared to 1,519 in October 2023. This spike is largely driven by the expanding logistics and services sectors, both of which require specialized and versatile fleets to support their operations.
Combined, these October sales figures total 15,003 units—a 17.17% increase over the 12,805 units sold in October 2023. The strong performance reflects the automotive market’s current vitality, bolstered by favorable conditions, the arrival of new brands, and proactive marketing strategies designed to attract a broader range of customers.
Year-to-date sales: A positive outlook for 2024
The market’s momentum is also evident in the cumulative year-to-date sales. Between January and October 2024, new vehicle sales in Morocco reached 137,953 units—a 5.94% increase from the 130,214 units sold over the same period in 2023. This sustained growth is a promising indicator for the Moroccan car market as it adapts to shifting consumer needs and economic conditions.
In the passenger vehicle category, Dacia leads with a 25.54% market share, totaling 31,365 registrations as of October. Renault holds second place with 18,613 units sold (a 15.15% market share), followed by Hyundai with 10,034 units, representing 8.17% of the market.
Renault dominates the light commercial vehicle segment, selling 3,611 units for a market share of 23.86%, ahead of Ford, which sold 2,022 units (13.36% market share), and Toyota with 1,636 units, capturing 10.81% of the market.
