The number of overnight stays in classified tourist accommodations (CTAs) has increased by 6.8%, exceeding 7.8 million nights by the end of April 2024, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

This growth is largely driven by a significant 17.2% rise in overnight stays recorded last April, linked to an 11% increase in stays by non-residents, explained the DEPF in its June 2024 economic report.

Moreover, the tourism sector kicked off the summer season of 2024 with record-breaking tourist arrivals in May alone. A total of 1.3 million arrivals were recorded, marking an 18.2% growth compared to May 2023.

The performance is primarily attributed to a 21.8% increase in foreign tourist arrivals, which account for 57.6% of the total arrivals. Additionally, the arrivals of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) surged by 13.7% in May 2024.

In the first five months of this year, Morocco recorded a milestone of over 5.9 million tourist arrivals, a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Foreign tourist arrivals, making up 56.4% of the total, rose by 16.8% by the end of May, while MRE arrivals saw a 12.7% increase.
