Between January and August 2025, Morocco’s classified tourist accommodations recorded over 20.3 million overnight stays, according to new data from the Tourism Observatory. This marks a 10% increase compared to the same period last year, driven by steady growth in both domestic and international tourism. While local travelers contributed a 5% rise, international visitors pushed the numbers further with a 13% jump in overnight stays.
Several cities stood out with particularly strong performances. Tangier led the way with an 18% increase in overnight stays, followed closely by Casablanca at 17%. Fes saw a 13% rise, while Essaouira and Agadir each posted 9% growth. Al Haouz recorded a 4% uptick, and Marrakech, although already a well-established hub, still managed a 3% increase.
The tourism sector’s momentum was also reflected in foreign currency revenues generated by non-resident visitors. These reached 87.59 billion dirhams during the first eight months of the year—a 14% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Border crossings also showed strong growth, with nearly 13.54 million tourist arrivals recorded by the end of August. That’s a year-on-year increase of 15%, confirming Morocco’s continuing appeal as a top travel destination and highlighting the sector’s resilience and recovery.
