Morocco’s tourist boom: 5.7 million visitors in just four months

Morocco is experiencing a record-breaking surge in tourism, welcoming more than 5.7 million visitors by the end of April—an unprecedented figure that reflects a sharp 23 percent increase compared to the same period last year. That’s roughly one million more tourists than in the first four months of 2024, marking a significant leap for the country’s travel sector.

April alone accounted for a large portion of this momentum, drawing in 1.7 million arrivals—a 27 percent year-over-year spike. This jump isn’t just about peak season popularity anymore; it signals a broader shift. Morocco is now attracting visitors steadily throughout the year, thanks to a tourism offering that’s been overhauled and fine-tuned to appeal beyond the usual holiday windows.

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor sees this surge as early proof that the national tourism strategy is beginning to bear fruit. She credits a long-term vision championed by King Mohammed VI, aimed at laying the groundwork for a sustainable and resilient tourism industry.

According to Ammor, the country’s path is clearly defined: showcase Morocco’s unique strengths while building a foundation for consistent, long-term growth. More than just boosting numbers, the ultimate goal is to elevate Morocco’s standing as a premier global travel destination.
