Morocco’s weekend heat to give way to cooler, rainier weather

Weather conditions across Morocco are expected to remain calm this weekend, but that stability won’t last long. A notable shift is forecast to begin Sunday evening, with a weather front moving in from the north and gradually spreading across the country.

According to the latest forecast from the national meteorological authority, both Friday and Saturday will see mostly clear skies. However, temperatures will vary widely between regions. In the far south, the southeast, the inland Souss area, and parts of the plains near the High Atlas, daytime highs could soar to 41°C. In stark contrast, the Atlantic coastline and the Atlas Mountains will enjoy much cooler weather, with temperatures ranging from 16 to 22°C.

Morning fog and low clouds are expected to linger over the northern and central Atlantic plains, as well as in the northwestern parts of the southern provinces. On Saturday, the overall pattern remains similar, though stronger winds could kick up dust in the southeast and parts of the eastern region. A slight dip in temperatures is also likely in the northwest.

The real change begins late Sunday, with rain forecast to reach areas around Tangier and the Loukkos region. This will mark the start of a broader weather system expected to settle in by Tuesday. A depression moving in from the north is set to bring rainfall to much of the northern half of the country, including the Mediterranean coast, the Rif Mountains, the Atlas ranges, and the Oriental region. Alongside the rain, a significant drop in temperatures is expected.

What starts as a localized cool-down will gradually spread across other parts of the country. By midweek, much of Morocco could experience cooler, wetter conditions—a sharp contrast to the intense heat many areas will see over the weekend.
