At the Argus Media Africa Fertilizer Conference in Cape Town, OCP Africa and Olam Agri sealed a strategic partnership aimed at advancing sustainable agriculture across the continent. This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focuses on optimizing crop yields in Chad and Côte d’Ivoire by tailoring fertilizer solutions to the unique characteristics of local soils and crops.

The initiative includes the development of customized agronomic solutions, featuring experimental trials and demonstration plots to promote best agricultural practices. The goal is twofold: enhance farm productivity while ensuring a sustainable approach that conserves natural resources.

As a subsidiary of Morocco’s phosphate giant OCP Group, OCP Africa joins forces with Olam Agri, the agribusiness arm of the Olam Group, to empower African farmers with solutions that directly address their needs. The agreement also outlines strategies for scaling up commercial agriculture, helping the sector evolve beyond subsistence farming.

This partnership highlights the increasing role of private sector players in Africa’s agricultural transformation. In recognition of these efforts, Mohamed Hettiti, CEO of OCP Africa, was awarded the African Partner of the Year—a distinction that acknowledges the company’s major contributions to building a more structured, efficient, and inclusive agricultural ecosystem on the continent.

Through this agreement, OCP Africa and Olam Agri reaffirm their commitment to fostering a more resilient and innovative agricultural sector in Africa. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and sustainable farming practices, this collaboration could lay the groundwork for a scalable model applicable across the continent.
